Eat Well, Eat Healthily

Most of the prepared meals we sell are hand made. Because of the unique and rapid 'water-free' freezing system , the products do not need the preservatives used in inferior shop-bought foods. So they are almost all additive-free, and simply quick frozen. The myth that 'Fresh is Best' ignores the fact that fresh food needs to be consumed very quickly or preserved. The story of Birds Eye frozen peas, which are proven by research to contain much more nutrition than fresh peas, applies to other quick frozen foods and meals. Blast-freezing preserves without additives.

So we agree that, to be healthy you must eat:

  • more fruit and veg
  • more starchy foods such as rice, bread, pasta (try to choose wholegrain varieties when you can) and potatoes
  • less fat, salt and sugar
  • some protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs and pulses
It is also important to eat a variety of foods to make sure we get all the nutrients our bodies need. The 5-a-day campaign is not just an empty fad - it's bang on! In particular a Vegetarian diet must include a great deal of variety. This is because meats contain many different proteins, especially red meats, whereas any one vegetable or pulse etc. will contain fewer  and less complex proteins.
